Notes:— Heldreich (1898) described Teucrium montanum var. modestum on the basis of the material collected in Greece, from the alpine region of Mount Taygetos. He noted on the label that the plants from Taygetos differ from T. montanum var. parnassicum by the smaller size of leaves and corolla, and capitulum with fewer flowers. The original material of T. montanum var. modestum collected by Heldreich is deposited at multiple herbaria – JE, K, WU. We here designate the specimen WU 073103 as the lectotype of the name Teucrium montanum var. modestum as it fits best the description. The same specimen was cited as syntype in the paper of Reich et al. (2021). The name with diagnosis appears in printed label of Heldreich´s Herbarium Graecum normale.
