Neoconocephalus Karny, 1907

Homorocoryphus Karny, 1907

The species described as Homorocoryphus passed to Ruspolia according to Bailey’s (1975) synonymy. However, Ruspolia is a genus originally only known from the Old World, and Piza’s species would be the only ones for the Americas. But Piza (1958, 1971, 1973, 1983) referred to H. ensifer, H. finitimus, and H. occidentalis to compare and describe his species, and those three species have been moved to Neoconocephalus: N. ensifer, N. finitimus, and N. occidentalis . Although Piza described species in Neoconocephalus as well as Homorocoryphus, he never clarified which characters he used to separate these two genera. We include all species in Neoconocephalus . Unfortunately this increases the taxonomic confusion of this large genus even more, with more than 100 species from South America currently considered valid.
