Distribution. This species has only been recorded from South Africa.
Remarks. This genus was erected by Kirby (1910). Uvarov (1922) re-described the genus based partly on Platacanthoides bituberculatus (Uvarov 1922) .
The genus has three described species of which one has a two subspecies: P. reductus Dirsh 1956 and P. morosus Walker 1870 and two subspecies of bituberculatus: bituberculatus Uvarov 1922 and bituberculatus attenuatus Uvarov 1922 all of which have records of distribution in South Africa. P. morusus was originally described based on one female specimen by Walker (1870), this is very unreliable since female specimens are difficult to assign to conspecific male. I collected several specimens of Platacanthoides bituberculatus in the field but had no other specimens to compare with.
