Depth: 0.2– 5 m

Specimens examined, observed: 5, 8

Length: 40–69 mm

Remarks: This is the first report of C. malacanus from Lakshadweep. Frauenfeld (1869), Kohn (1978), Rajagopal et al. (1998), Hylleberg & Kilburn (2002), Fernando & Fernando (2002), Franklin et al. (2007), and Apte (2014) recorded this species from Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
