A widely distributed species throughout southern Asia, India, Ceylon, Burma, Malaysia, Sondaic Archipelago [Sunda Islands?], Borneo, 1New Guinea, Australasia, Philippines and Samoa. Now recorded from Guam for the first time. Abundant in lowlands, especially rice fields.
