(Figs. 24–30)
Astenus bifidus Lecoq, 1996: 25; Janák & Lecoq, 2007: 330.
Type locality. Central Madagascar, Ankaratra Mts., Manjakatompo .
Material examined (1 specimen). MADAGASCAR: 1 ♂: AMBOHITANTELY Spec. Res., S18°10’17.9‘‘, E47°16’36.9‘‘ 1584m; Malaise trap, 17.-25.xi. 2011, P. Baňař lgt. (MMBC) .
Distribution. The holotype was described from Manjakatompo in Ankaratra Mts. The second specimen (female) from Ambialialika was attributed originally with some doubts to this species (Janák & Lecoq 2007). The new records is situated far north of these localities.
Note. The shape of red spots on the elytra is variable: limited on transverse bands at posterior sixth (type) or third of elytra (Ambialialika and Ambohitantely – Figs. 24–27). Aedeagus (Figs. 28, 29) and posterior margin of the male sternite VII (Fig. 30) of the specimen from Ambohitantely are very characteristic for this species and confirm identity of both specimens with the holotype.
