Pycna gigas (Distant, 1881)

Platypleura gigas Distant 1881: 107 . (Madagascar)

Remarks.—One of three species with a body length less than 37 mm and wingspan greater than 110 mm. Body length is about 34 mm and wingspan is about 122 mm (Distant 1881). It can be distinguished further from P. rudis (Karsch, 1890) and P. strix Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843 by the ground color scutal depression, timbal cover color contrasting the abdominal tergites, and the lack of dense pile on the abdominal tergites.

Distribution.—The species is only known from Madagascar (Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013; 2020).
