Type locality: ‘ Africa: Gray. Gallapagos Islands; in six fathoms, coral sand: Cuming (v.s. in m. Gray.)’.

Label locality: ‘ Gallapagos Is., 6 fms’ (NHMUK 1968420/1-3); ‘S.E. Africa’ (NHMUK 1874.10.29.1).

Type material: Lectotype NHMUK 1968420/1 and 2 paralectotypes NHMUK 1968420/2-3 (H. Cuming collection), and 1 paralectotype NHMUK 1874.10.29.1 (J.E. Gray collection). Indirect lectotype selection by inference of holotype (Bratcher & Cernohorsky, 1987: 144, pl. 42, figs. 163a, b).

Remarks: Specimen 1874.10.29.1 also type material of T. gracilis Gray, 1834 and T. grayi Smith, 1877 .
