Female. Macropterous. Body slender and uniformly yellowish white or bicoloured, often vividly coloured when alive. Head often prolonged anteriorly and often strongly constricted behind compound eyes (cf. Figs. 1, 6, 22); mouthcone short and rounded at apex with 3segmented maxillary palpi. Compound eyes more or less bulging. Ocellar setae I absent, setae III situated between hind ocelli or rarely at tangent of anterior margin of hind ocelli, and relatively long. Postocular setae uniserial and five pairs. Antennae 8 segmented, usually slender, segment I with two dorsal apical setae, III and IV with sensecone forked, III to VI with some microtrichial rows on both dorsal and ventral surfaces (cf, Fig. 7). Pronotum smooth medially; two pairs of posteroangular setae usually developed (cf. Fig. 1) (no long setae in T. veversae Mound & Masumoto from Australia). Mesonotum with median pair of setae situated near posterior margin or ahead of submedian setae (cf. Figs. 3, 7). Metascutum usually smooth, often weakly sculptured medially; median pair of setae situated at or near anterior margin; campaniform sensilla present or absent. Prosternal ferna undivided. Mesosternum without sternopleural suture; endofurca with spinula. Metasternal endofurca usually without spinula. Metaepimeron with 0 to 2 setae. Fore wing first vein with median long gap in setal row and two setae distally; clavus usually with four (rarely three or five) veinal and one discal setae; posterior fringe hairs wavy. Tarsi 2segmented. Abdominal terga without ctenidia or posteromarginal craspeda; terga II to VII with three setae (B3–B5 setae) along lateral margin arranged in straight line, usually smooth medially and sculptured laterally (cf. Fig. 4); tergum VIII without posteromarginal comb; tergum IX with or without campaniform sensilla (cf. Fig. 10); tergum X without median split; sterna without posteromarginal craspeda, with or without discal setae; sternum II with two or three pairs of posteromarginal setae; sterna III to VII with three pairs of posteromarginal setae; laterotergites without discal setae. Ovipositor developed.
Male. Macropterous or apterous. General structure and colour similar to female. Abdominal tergum IX usually with a pair of posteromarginal processes (drepanae) (cf. Fig. 11); sterna III to VIII with numerous scattered, or three to six, glandular areas (cf. Fig. 13).
