Calamotropha sp. 1 cf. oculalis

Figs. 45, 107.

MATERIAL

1 ♂ (specimen identifier coll.mfn-berlin.de_u_1e3488, DNA voucher MFNLEP-PYRALPHIL07-G09, genitalia on slide TL1070♂; BOLD sample ID PYPHI143-21). PHILIPPINES: Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Mount Halcon, 1300 m, 15-17.01.1998 (W. Mey, W. Speidel).

SIMILAR SPECIES

Calamotropha indica (Błeszyński, 1961), C. melli (Caradja, 1933), C. oculalis (Snellen, 1893), Calamotropha sp. 2 cf. oculalis .

DIAGNOSIS

This species (Fig. 45) is externally very similar to the four species listed above. Calamotropha oculalis is only known from female specimens, hence making comparison with the one male specimen available difficult. In male genitalia (Fig. 107), this species shares the shape of the uncus and gnathos with C. indica and C. melli; however, the conspicuous, ventral, spine-like projections of the valva apex separates this species confidently from the two others.

DISTRIBUTION

PHILIPPINES: Mindoro. Collected at an altitude of 1300 m.

REMARKS

One of the two species presented here is most probably Calamotropha oculalis (Snellen, 1893) . Błeszyński (1961) examined a female specimen of Calamotropha oculalis from the Philippines (Luzon, Benguet, Irisan) with “genitalia strikingly similar to those of the holotype”.
