Examined material: Lectotype ♂, MNHN. Verbatim label: Frontière orientale du Thibet, Chasseurs indigènes du P. Déjean, 1905 / ESN slide no. 2871 (Fig. 5a); 1 ♂, [China, Xizang], Tâ-tsien-lou [ Kangding], 1898. local collector, ZSBS (Fig. 5b).
Original description (Oberthür 1911): Illustration only, plate 5, Fig. 11, no written description. “Placed close to regius Staudinger. ”
Female: unknown.
Etymology. Presumably named for the rose-coloured tint of the hindwings.
Flight period. Unknown.
Remarks. Elongate dark shaded patch present between outer anterior discal cell and basal Rs4-M 1 and M 1 -M 2 cells (Fig. 30f) similar to M. miniatus (Fig. 30d). Originally described and illustrated for a single male specimen which is recognized here as the lectotype. Sympatric with M. bouvieri (Fig. 31).
