Eruga lineata Townes in Townes & Townes 1960: 239 [holotype ♀, USA, Oregon, McMinnville, 19.viii.1947, coll. K.M. Fender, USNM 63701 (USNM); ♀ ♂].

References. Carlson 1979: 336 [catalogue]. Gauld 1991: 357 [ E. yehi (description); Costa Rica]. Gauld et al. 1998: 122 [ E. yehi; in key; Costa Rica]. Hernández-Aguilar et al. 2005: 470 [Mexico (Tamaulipas)]. Khalaim et al. 2018: 20 [Mexico (Veracruz)].
Remarks. According to the original description of E. lineata and key to the Nearctic species of Eruga by Townes & Townes (1960), Mexican material listed below clearly belongs to this species. Samples of E. lineata from Tamaulipas were compared with material of E. yehi identified by I. Gauld and deposited in the collection of INBio, and all these specimens were found to be conspecific. Thus, we consider the Costa Rican species E. yehi as a junior synonym of E. lineata (syn. nov.).
Variation. Female from Tepoztlán (Morelos) possesses hind coxa almost entirely blackish, with only extreme apex pale.
