Current status: Hiperantha (Hiperantha) menetriesii menetriesii Mannerheim, 1837 (Bellamy 2008) .

Comments: H. menetriesii was described by Mannerheim (1837) from a single specimen that he received from M. Hummel, who received it from M. Besche, who, in turn, had received it from the collector, M. Ménétriés, to whom the species was dedicated.

The original description indicates that the type specimen was collected by M. Ménétriés in “Brasilia; ad Serra da Lapa in provincial Minas Geraïs.”. The lectotype housed at the MZHF is labelled as “Brasilia Min. Geraës” (Hummel leg.).
