61. Halpe paupera Devyatkin, 2002
Halpe paupera: Wang & Tang 2012: 58 (Mao’ershan).
Distribution in Guangxi. Xing’an (Mao’ershan).
Note. Based upon a single female from Hong Kong, Halpe paupera walthewi was described as a separate subspecies, although only 2 males and 2 females of H. paupera paupera from central Vietnam were compared (Devyatkin 2002: 129–131). This subspecies has the lower cell spot on the forewing well-developed and two small but sharp spots in space 1b directed to the middle of vein 1 (Devyatkin 2002: 131). However, the photo of the female H. paupera from Hong Kong provided by Lo (2005: 123) is quite different: the lower cell spot on the forewing is reduced and there is no spot in space 1b. Moreover, the male from Hong Kong (Lo 2005: 123) is distinguishable from the nominate subspecies by the upper cell spot on the forewing not being elongated, whereas the shape of this spot in the male from Guangxi (Wang & Tang 2012: figs 13–14 in pl. 109) falls in between those of the 2 subspecies. Thus, H. paupera walthewi is likely a synonym of H. paupera .
