TYPE:— CHINA. Hainan: Fan Ta, 18 April 1922, F. A. McClure 2590 (i.e. Canton Christian College Herbarium 9148) (syntype: PNH, destroyed, A 00045975 image!, A 00045976 image!).

McClure 9148 was the only gathering cited in the protologue of the name Cleistanthus saichikii Merr. (Merrill, 1923) . However, the collecting number on the label of the syntype specimen (A 00045975) is 2590, while its herbarium number is Canton Christian College Herbarium 9148. Thus, the collecting number cited in the protologue is to be corrected.
