Etymology. The specific name is an adjective, referring to the broad copulatory ducts in the female epigyne.
Diagnosis. Echinax breviducta sp. nov. can be distinguished from E. panache by: 1) the short copulatory ducts (vs long in E. panache) (cf. Fig. 2E with Fig. 12E); 2) the short, slightly curved distal part of embolus (vs long and prominently curved in E. panache) (cf. Figs 2A–C, 13G–H with Figs 12A–C, 13C–D).
Description. Male (Holotype) (Fig. 1A–B). TL 4.39; CL 2.08, CW 1.68; AL 2.31, AW 1.61. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.14, ALE 0.06, PME 0.10, PLE 0.11; AME–AME 0.11, AME–ALE 0.05, ALE–ALE 0.37, PME–PME 0.18, PME–PLE 0.09, PLE–PLE 0.49, ALE–PLE 0.05; MOA 0.39 long, anterior width 0.38, posterior width 0.40. Clypeal height 0.20. LL 0.36, LW 0.52. SL 1.33, SW 1.31. Measurements of legs: I 6.10 (1.84, 0.62, 1.42, 1.40, 0.82), II 6.04 (1.86, 0.62, 1.35, 1.40, 0.81), III 6.02 (1.76, 0.66, 1.30, 1.53, 0.77), IV 7.25 (2.11, 0.71, 1.39, 2.15, 0.89). Carapace yellowish, with dark radial marks around fovea. Endites yellowish, with curved setae. Labium yellowish; sternum yellowish. Legs yellowish, with black spots around spine bases; femora with half ring ventrally. Abdomen oval, with two pairs of sigilla, ventrally with longitudinal grey band. Dorsal scutum yellow, triangular, and about half the length of abdomen.
Palp as illustrated (Figs 2A–C, 13G–H). Cymbium elongated, with spatulate setae on dorsal surface. Embolus spiral and coiled, with distal end pointed prolaterally.
Female (paratype) (Fig. 1C–D).TL 6.94; CL 2.71, CW 2.16; AL 4.23, AW 3.05. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.14, ALE 0.08, PME 0.11, PLE 0.12; AME–AME 0.13, AME–ALE 0.04, ALE–ALE 0.40, PME–PME 0.18, PME–PLE 0.09, PLE–PLE 0.52, ALE–PLE 0.05; MOA 0.37 long, anterior width 0.39, posterior width 0.43. Clypeal height 0.21. LL 0.32, LW 0.59. SL 1.32, SW 1.31. Measurements of legs: I 7.90 (2.36, 0.91, 1.82, 1.85, 0.96), II 7.74 (2.37, 0.86, 1.76, 1.79, 0.96), III 7.70 (2.32, 0.80, 1.72, 1.93, 0.93), IV 9.65 (2.68, 0.99, 2.15, 2.79, 1.04). Other characters as in the holotype, except with small dorsal scutum extending ¼ abdomen length.
Epigyne as in Fig. 2D–E. Copulatory openings with oblique edges (Fig. 2D). Copulatory ducts oblique, Jshaped, gradually extended anteriorly and curved laterally (Fig. 2D–E). ST II kidney-shaped; ST I spherical; middle spermathecae with wrinkles, situated closely.
Distribution. China (Hubei and Gansu).
