Lectotype (designated by Garilleti 1993):— MEXICO. Habitat in Sotoluca Novae-Hispaniae; florebat in Regio horto Matritense Julio, 1795, Née s.n. (MA476026 digital image).

Distribution: —S Hengduan.

Note: — Cavanilles (1796) described Oenothera tetraptera based on an illustration (Tab. 279) and a gathering collected by Née from “Regio horto Matritense” (origin: “Sotoluca Novae-Hispaniae”) in 1795. Garilleti (1993) recorded a specimen in MA (MA476026) as “Material tipo, al menos en parte” for O. tetraptera . This specimen was labeled by both Cavanilles and Née, and its collecting information is well corresponded to the description of the original material. According to Art. 7.11, Garilleti’s designation of this type specimen is valid, but needs to be corrected as the lectotype according to Art. 9.1 and 9.10.
