Diagnosis. Inner orbits converging above; antennal socket very low on frons, surrounded by a basin; clypeus usually narrow, tumid medially, usually having a vertical carina which is continuous with frontal carina, clypeal margin usually with median truncate or sinuate lobe; mandible usually with subapical tooth in female, without externoventral mandibular notch in both sexes; hind wing with few veins, without any closed cells; subdiscoidal cell of forewing open behind; hypersternaulus present; propodeal dorsum longitudinally ridged or coarsely reticulate (Bohart & Menke 1976).

Distribution. Oriental, Ethiopian, Australian, Palearctic, Nearctic, and Neotropical Regions.
