Material examined. Lepidopleurus lineatus lectotype (ITZ Moll. 3.05.011) designated by Ferreira (1979: 163); Lepidopleurus belknapioides holotype (MNHN 5862). 84 specimens in 18 lots from Vanuatu, 125 specimens in 29 lots from the Philippines, 263 specimens in 36 lots from the Solomon Islands.

Distribution. Widely distributed in the Western Pacific, in Japan, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Vanuatu (summarised in Kaas & Van Belle 1985; see also Sigwart 2009b); 121–1767 m. Material studied here represents the deepest records for the species, from the Philippines at 1750–1767 m (Panglao 2005 sta. CP2353) and 1764 m (Panglao 2005 sta. CP2356). Locally abundant species and common on sunken wood.
