Leptochiton Gray, 1847

Type species. Chiton cinereus Linnaeus, 1767 sensu Montagu (1803: misapplication of name, subsequently designated by Gray 1847) = Leptochiton asellus (Gmelin, 1791) .

Diagnosis. Valves without insertion plates. Animals small, usually not exceeding 20 mm length. Girdle clothed with small scales, sometimes interspersed with spicules, or wholly spiculose.
