Synegiodes punicearia Xue, 1992, Iconography of forest insects in Hunan China: 825 [English translation p. 903], fig. 2663. Holotype Ƌ , China: Hunan, Sangzhi, Tianping Shan (IZCAS) .

Diagnosis. The most distinctive difference of S. punicearia from S. sanguinaria and S. histrionaria is that the basal half of fore- and hindwings is densely colored pinkish-red throughout, as well as the broad postmedial bands which are separated in the forewings, confluent in the hindwings. The yellow band in between shows an irregular line of dots in the same color. This pattern is unmistakable. The vein R5 is shortly stalked with vein R2-4 from apical angle of the areole on the forewing, the same in S. sanguinaria and S. histrionaria, but about three times as long in S. ornata . The uncus has elongate, almost rectangular sclerites subapically, the saccular processes are rounded at tip in the male and the signum is trifurcate posteriorly in the female genitalia. Further differences of the first three species are presented under S. sanguinaria .
