Coenosia planifrons Stein, 1913

Diagnosis. Frons uniformly silver dusted, the fronto-orbital plate not differentiated by paler pollinosity; arista short-haired at base; postpedicel pointed at anterior tip; scutellum with both pairs of setae present, one basal and one apical; haltere yellow; legs brown with grey pollinosity, extreme tip of femora yellow; hind tibia without a distinct submedian posterodorsal seta; abdomen with a median vitta and lateral brown spots on all tergites. Sternite 5 as in Fig. 19.

Male terminalia. Cercal plate as in Fig. 20, surstylus short. Aedeagal complex as in Fig. 21; aedeagal apodem short.

Material examined. ANGOLA: (A6), Tundavala, 9 mls. NW. Sa da Bandeira, 23.ii. 1972 / Southern African Exp., B.M.1972-1, 4 males (2 MNRJ).

Notes. This species is included in the C. niveifrons -group.

Geographical distribution. Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Angola.
