Male genitalia: parameres (Fig. 38).
Note 1: Burmeister (1861, 1943) mentions that he found “the G. flavormarginata Bl. D’Orb. from Corrientes in Santiago ” (translated from Spanish). This specimen belongs to G. bouvieri .
Note 2: Burmeister (1861, 1943) also mentioned that he found in Catamarca, “other similar (to G. flavomarginata Blanchard, [1842]) but different and smaller” (translated from Spanish). In 1866, Burmeister gave a brief description of this insect as a variety of G. flavomarginata: “a minor variety, instead of the eight big spots of pure yellow color, it has eight small orange spots, which are neither confluent nor prolongued in teeth” (Fig. 30). The male genitalia of one of these specimens is identical to typical G. bouvieri from Santiago del Estero (Fig. 38).
Note 3: Lists of publications by Dallas were given by Pirán (1946, 1954) and De Santis (1992). Apparently Gymnetis pudibunda var. minor was not published. Therefore, the specimen at MLPA is not a type specimen.
Note 4: In two specimens from La Rioja (Breyer Collection), the internal margin of the yellow elytral band is straight and parallel to the elytral margin.
Note 5: Antoine (2001) mentioned six males from Pozo La Gringa (Chaco), comprising 1 ex. of the typical form, 3 exx. with reduced spots on the elytra, and 2 exx. without spots.
