AMMODYTIDAE

Ammodytes tobianus Linnaeus, 1758, was recorded firstly in the Mediterranean by Ninni (1870) and later by Carus (1893), but these records are considered doubtful either by Šoljan (1975) or Tortonese (1975). The report of three juvenile specimens from the Balearic Islands by Riehl (1978), is to be considered uncertain according to Golani et al. (2002).
