MULLIDAE

Parupeneus forsskali (Fourmanoir & Guézé, 1976), was recorded on the basis of observations made during a scuba dive along the Mersin coast, Turkey (Cinar et al., 2006). According to Sciberras and Schembri (2007), it is possible that a specimen referable to this species was collected in 1979 at Gozo under the name of P. barberinus . However, Golani et al. (2002) exclude this taxon from their list of exotic species, and Golani (2010) points out that is better to refrain from including in the official list of the Mediterranean ichthyofauna species whose presence is based only upon underwater photographs.
