TORPEDINIDAE

Torpedo alexandrinsis Mazhar, 1987, was described from five specimens found at the Alexandria (Egypt) fish market but the types are not available, hence its doubtful status. It is not included in the lists of Serena (2005) and Bradai et al. (2010).

Torpedo fuscomaculata Peters, 1855, despite the mention of this species in the Lessepsian immigrant group (Quignard & Tomasini, 2000), its recording in Alexandria, Egypt (Mazhar, 1982) needs to be verified and is probably a misidentification of T. marmorata (see Serena, 2005). It is not included in the list of Bradai et al. (2010). Torpedo sinuspersici Olfers, 1831, despite the mention of this species in the Lessepsian immigrant group (Serena 2005), its recording in the Levantine Sea by Saad et al. (2004) needs to be verified due to insufficient data (Zenetos et al., 2005).
