Anguilla japonica Temminck & Schlegel, 1846, escape of elvers from eel farms of estuaries in the Greek Ionian sea are mentioned by Corsini-Foka and Economidis (2007) but no specimens are available for confirmation. This record is considered questionable by Zenetos et al. (2010).
