RAJIDAE
Raja africana Capapé, 1977, validity of this species is questioned by Compagno (1999), it was indicated as a not valid species by Serena (2005) who remarks the absence of type material. Nevertheless, the species is cited for the Algerian basin (Hemida et al., 2007) and prudently included in the checklist of elasmobranchs occurring in the Mediterranean Sea (Bradai et al., 2010).
Raja rondeleti Bougis, 1959, the taxonomic status of this species is doubtful; the original description is probably based on an abnormal specimen of R. fullonica (Tortonese, 1987; Serena, 2005). According to the latter author, four records from the French and Italian coasts are to be considered doubtful.
