PRIACANTHIDAE
Priacanthus hamrur (Forsskål, 1775), was recorded on the basis of a single specimen from the coast of Tunisia (Abdelmouleh, 1981). According to Starnes (1988), the taxonomic status and origin of the above recorded fish are unclear. Its validity is also questioned by Golani (2010).
Priacanthus arenatus Cuvier, 1829, was recorded in the Gulf of Cagliari (Tortonese & Cau, 1985) and in the Strait of Messina (Costa, 1991). This species is not included in the list of non native fishes recorded in Italian waters (Orsi Relini, 2010) and, according to Relini and Lanteri (2010), requires further study.
