TRACHIPTERIDAE

Trachipterus arcticus (Brünnich, 1771), was recorded from the Mediterranean coast of Spain on the basis of four juvenile specimens (Planas & Vives, 1956). This record is erroneous according to Tortonese (1975) who considers it a misidentification with T. trachypterus . Nevertheless, T. articus is included in the Mediterranean ichthyofauna by Palmer (1986) and Fischer et al. (1987).
