Miniopterus inflatus Thomas, 1903
Fig. 33 A–B
Miniopterus inflatus Thomas, 1903: 634 .
* Miniopterus inflatus rufus Sanborn, 1936: 112 .
With the exception of FMNH 152883 and 152884 from 32 km SE of Mbuji-Mayi (Kasaï Oriental Province), all other specimens are from the eastern part of the CRB area (DRC provinces of Haut-Uélé, Ituri, Tanganyika, Haut-Lomami and Haut-Katanga; Rwanda and Burundi).
Happold (2013 aq: 715) indicated that M. inflatus occurs widespread south of the Sahara, but mostly in isolated localities. Contrary to her map, we excluded the specimens from Ethiopia, as we follow Peterson et al. (1995: 120), Lavrenchenko et al. (2004 b: 144), Simmons (2005: 519) and Juste et al. (2007: 28) in considering africanus as a separate species. We also believe that the species occurs far further to the south, into the RSA.
