(Figs 1a–c)
Aristotelia achyrobathra Meyrick, 1933 — Exotic Microlepidoptera, 4 (12–14), 447–448.
Type material. ♂, [DR Congo] Katanga: Mato, 29.xi.1925, Ch. Seydel | M 1290 | R. Det. R 2241 | Aristotelia achyrobathra Meyr., n. sp ., Type | gen. slide 245/24, O. Bidzilya (RMCA) .
Remarks. Aristotelia achyrobathra was described based on the male holotype. The male genitalia unambiguously justify the assignment of the species to Stomopteryx Heinemann, 1870, and we herewith transfer this species to the latter genus. The relationship between S. achyrobathra comb. nov. and other similarly looking species of Afrotropical Stomopteryx is uncertain as long as the genus is unrevised.
Male genitalia (described here for the first time, Fig. 1c). [Uncus missing]; gnathos slender, band-shaped; tegumen twice longer than broad at base, broadest in middle, with a rounded plate covered with hairs in middle, lateral folds 1/3 width of tegumen; pedunculus short, very slender; valva gradually bent, narrow at base, broadened through 1/2 length, then tapered to rounded apex, slightly longer than tegumen; vinculum band-shaped, distinctly broader than long; juxta lobes large, subtriangular, densely covered with hairs; phallus inflated in basal half, gradually narrowed apically, lateral process stout, about half as wide as adjacent part of phallus, with narrow, pointed apex, extending to 3/4 length of phallus.
Distribution. DR Congo: Katanga Province.
