Remarks. Strand (1910) informally suggested a species called Zalmoxis pallicolor Strand, 1910 from the same locality as the holotype of Z. armatipes Strand, 1910 . His suggestion was informal and uncertain because he believed the holotype of Z. pallicolor Strand, 1910 could have been a juvenile of Z. armatipes Strand, 1910 . Z. pallicolor Strand, 1910 was only distinguishable from Z. armatipes Strand, 1910 by its smaller size, pale gray color, less pronounced armature, and minor differences in the widths of the opisthosomal segments, all of which are in accordance with a juvenile (the grayish color is especially distinctive in specimens that have undergone recent molts; Townsend et al. 2009). Roewer (1912, 1923) also expressed uncertainty about the validity of Z. pallicolor, but maintained it and eventually transferred the two species to separate genera without justification. On the basis of the original descriptions, observations of juvenile stages in Zalmoxidae, and recent studies of postembryonic development in Laniatores, we consider the type of Z. pallicolor Strand, 1910 to be a juvenile specimen of Z. armatipes Strand, 1910 .
