Type locality: New Jersey
Distribution: This species has been recorded from Connecticut to Miami (Ryer & Orth, 1987; Kensley & Schotte, 1989) and in the Gulf of Mexico (Kensley & Schotte, 1989; Bostroem & Mattila, 1999).
Range extension: In the Gulf of Mexico, Erichsonella attenuata occurs in Florida, Mississippi and Texas (Kensley & Schotte, 1989; Bostroem & Mattila, 1999); however, the presence of E. attenuata at SM inlet extends its geographic distribution into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico
Remarks: This species is found from the intertidal zone to 2 m deep, usually associated with submerged seagrass and algal beds in coastal lagoons and bays (Fredette et al. 1990; Kensley et al. 1995).
The salinity and temperature ranges measured at the site were 24 to 26 %o and 27 to 28 °C, respectively.
