TYPE SPECIES. — Typhis sowerbii Broderip, 1833 (by original designation), junior synonym of Murex labiatus Cristofori & Jan, 1832 .

Middle Miocene: Eastern Atlantic; Pliocene to Pleistocene: eastern and western Atlantic; Recent: eastern and western Atlantic, Somalia and Oman Gulf (Landau et al. 2007).
