Genus Falculifer Railliet, 1896

Falculifer Railliet, 1896: 161 (replacement name).

Type species: Dermaleichus rostratus Buchholz, 1869: 14, designated by Trouessart (1916: 215).

Notes: Railliet (1896) proposed the name Falculifer as a replacement for “ Falciger Buchholz, 1869 ”. However, Buchholz did not use the name Falciger, and its authorship should have been attributed to Trouessart & Mégnin, 1884b. In the revision of feather mite genera, Trouessart (1916: 215) designated Dermaleichus rostratus Buchholz, 1869 as the type species of Falculifer . Radford (1950: 169) did not notice this action and stated that the type species of Falculifer is D. rostratus by monotypy. That must be an error because Falculifer Railliet, 1896 is a replacement name for Falciger Trouessart, 1885a, which originally included two species (Trouessart, 1885a).
