(Figs 16–24, 84)
Etymology. The specific epithet is a noun in apposition and refers to the Gurupi Biological Reserve, where the specimens were collected.
Diagnosis. Predominantly yellow; cercus triangular, slightly tapered distally in lateral view, and gonocoxal and ejaculatory apodeme medium-sized, almost half of the length of the terminalia.
Holotype ♂ (Fig. 16). Body length 3.0 mm; wing length 1.9 mm.
Description. Head (Fig. 16). Black; clypeus, palpus and proboscis light yellow; anterior ocellus larger than posterior ones. Eye shiny black, contiguous in middle facial region, with tiny, very inconspicuous setae. Frons brown, about 2.0X longer than wide, covered with dark yellow to light brown pubescence; occiput with light yellow setae, sparse yellow-brown pubescence, dense only at eye margin. Antenna light yellow, except for lighter postpedicel and stylus with light brown appearance in lateral view; scape short, about ½ length of pedicel, which is about 2.0X longer than scape; postpedicel about 2.0X longer than maximum width; stylus longer than postpedicel; scape, pedicel, and postpedicel with tiny, very inconspicuous setae. Clypeus with whitish pubescence, palpus with 2–3 distally arranged light yellow setae; labellum with short and dense light yellow setae. Proboscis with short setae distally.
Thorax (Fig. 16). Light yellow, except for small brown details in following areas: i) dorsomedial region of prothorax and ii) anterior to notopleuron; thorax about 2.0X longer than wide; mesonotum with sparse, short and weak setae, except for longer and stronger seta on notopleuron.
Legs (Fig. 16). Light yellow to yellow. Foreleg with C1 and F1 subequal in length, T1 about ½ length of F1, t1 about ¼ shorter than T1. Mid and hind legs with coxae, femora, tibiae, and tarsi subequal in length. F1 with Ff=6/20/19/5; blackish denticles arranged in two parallel linear rows located on distal ⅔, closer together distally, bordered by two rows of strong setae. T1 ventrally arched, ventral surface with 2 rows of black, spine-like setae (14–15); T1 with strong, spine-like setae located on ventrodistal surface. All legs with short and sparse yellowish to dark yellow setae on coxae and femora, dense on tibiae and tarsi, except for slightly longer setae distally on C1, T1 with 1 row of setae located on posterodorsal surface of the distal ½.
Wing (Fig. 17). Membrane slightly dusky yellow, except for the slightly darker region on radial sector, veins yellow; R 2+3 long and straight, gently curved towards vein C distally, ~ 0.7X the distance between the tip of R 1 and R 4; bifurcation of R 4+5 acute (~70°); distance from the bifurcation of R 4+5 to the bifurcation of M 1+2 about 2.0X length of R 4; vein R 5 about ¾ length of M 1 and nearly as long as M 2. R 5 and M 1 convergent preapically but divergent distally; cell bm + dm short, terminating at level of R 1, about 2.0X longer than cell br. Halter whitish-yellow.
Abdomen (Fig. 16). Long and slender. Tergites brown to dark brown, except for light yellow tergite 7; distinct setae only on posterior margin. Sternites yellow with light, scattered setae, stronger on posterior margin.
Male terminalia (Figs 18–24). Entirely brown. Cercus triangular, slightly tapered distally in lateral view (Figs 18, 19, 22); left and right cerci distinctly separated anterodorsally; cercus externally setose (Fig. 22). Narrow epandrium truncated distally; short setae near dorsal margin (Figs 18, 19). Surstylus subquadrate distally (Fig. 22). Hypandrium subtriangular (Fig. 24), sclerotized, with short, sparse setae, in ventral view. Medium-sized gonocoxal apodeme projected beyond anterior margin of hypandrium (Fig. 21). Subepandrial sclerite with rounded anterior projection and medially sinuous posterior process in dorsal view, with setae distally (Fig. 23). Phallus cylindrical, strongly sclerotized, except for membranous area distally, covered with tiny dark spicules, and hook-shaped sclerotized process distally; phallus extended beyond hypandrium distally (Fig. 24). Ejaculatory apodeme medium-sized with laterally flattened unilamellar plate, ⅔ length of gonocoxal apodeme (Figs 18, 19, 24).
Female. Unknown.

Geographical record. Brazil (Maranhão).
Remarks. Hemerodromia gurupi sp. nov. differs from the other species in having gonocoxal apodeme and ejaculatory apodeme medium-sized, almost half-length of the terminalia (gonocoxal apodeme short or very longer or nearly subequal to length of terminalia and ejaculatory apodeme absent or very long in the other species). The observed characteristics of this species are recorded for the first time and indicate the presence of an intermediate form of the gonocoxal apodeme and the ejaculatory apodeme.
Comments. Specimens of H. gurupi sp. nov. were collected in Centro Novo do Maranhão in December and January.
