Taxonomy. Revised by Williams et al. (2011).

Material examined. 13 workers, 2 males (IAB).

Distribution in North China. Only on the edge of the east and northeast Qinghai-Tibetan plateau. Common at high elevations of the Qilianshan nature reserve, and rare at high elevations of the Gahai nature reserve in Gansu. 7 localities (Fig. 8) between 2659–3656 m (IAB).

Similar species in North China. This species can be similar in its black- and yellow-banded colour pattern to B. difficillimus (see the key; Figs 9, 13).

Distribution in China. Xizang, Gansu, Qinghai (IAB).

Forage plants. ASTERACEAE: Saussurea sp., Tephroseris pseudosonchus; CAMPANULACEAE: Adenophora polyantha; FABACEAE: Hedysarum tanguticum, Oxytropis ochrocephala; GERANIACEAE: Geranium pylzowianum; LAMIACEAE: Caryopteris mongholica .; ROSACEAE: Rubus sp.; SCROPHULARIACEAE: Pedicularis chinensis, P. kansuensis .
