Tribe Tephrellini
Tribe Tephrellini is characterized by shiny black body and black wings with distinct hyaline indentations or broad spots and often with shiny, light reflecting spots (argents). It is represented by 12 species in 6 genera in India, three in Metasphenisca Hendel, one in Tephraciura Hering, one in Aciura Robineau-Desvoidy, four in Pristaciura Hendel, two in Sphaeniscus Becker and one in Tephrella Bezzi (Agarwal & Sueyoshi; 2005; Hancock 2010; Maneesh & Prabhakar, 2025; this paper). Species of Tephrellini are mostly associated with Acanthaceae, Lamiaceae and verbenaceae, with Barleria sp. ( Acanthaceae) a major host in India.
