Type material. Holotype, MNHNS 10.065.
Other material. 1 female cl 41.86 mm, MZUC-CCC 31604 as Munidopsis hamata from Iquique, with no other information.
Type locality. Ritoque, Chile: 33°47’S, 81°18’W, 420 m, 10 June 1960 (Bahamonde 1964).
Other records. Off Peru: 03°51'S, 81°18'W, 800 m, Nov 1970 to Jan 1972 (Del Solar 1972). Quintero Bay: 32°42’S, 71°34’W and 71°45’W, 280–400 m and Los Vilos, 31°56’S, 71°38’W and 71°41’W, 300–400 m, Dec 1970 to Oct 1976 (Andrade & Baez 1980).
Distributional range. Ritoque, Chile and Peru (Retamal 1981).
Bathymetric range. 280–800 m
Description. Rostrum straight, long, slightly curved upward, armed with 1 pair of spines at mid-length (Fig. 5 b). Carapace subovate, covered with scales and few spines (Fig. 5 a), almost straight; cervical groove poorly developed; cardiac region with 2 divergent spines; posterior branchial region with 1 spine; lateral margins with sparse long spines. Chelipeds with sparse spines, merus with 3 row of spines, carpus with mid row of spines, 2 long spines in distal portion. Palm armed with minute tubercles, as long as dactyls (Fig. 5 c). Walking legs with 2 rows of sparse spines on merus, carpus with distal spine only; propodus unarmed. Dactyl row of ventral spines only (Fig. 5 d)
Remarks. As was pointed (see M. agassizii remarks), M. barrerai resembles M. agassizii, but differs because M. barrerai is more glabrous than M agassizii, in addition to the longer rostrum of M barrerai .
