Pomphopsilla Jałoszyński

Pomphopsilla Jałoszyński, 2011: 480 . Type species: Pomphopsilla luhya Jałoszyński, 2011 (orig. des.).

Pomphopsilla is similar to Cephennomicrus and in dorsal view dry-mounted specimens cannot be unambiguously placed in genus, unless unique, internal prothoracic 'vesicles' or 'cavities' are visible as a pair of translucent areas near posterior pronotal corners. These enigmatic structures can be easily seen in transparent mounts or even in specimens stored in ethanol, or in water, after relaxing dry-mounted beetles. Cephennomicrus lacks the prothoracic 'cavities'. Moreover, in Pomphopsilla the prosternal process is long and curved posteroventrad and so strongly elevated that it extends ventrally beyond procoxae and is visible in the lateral view (short, subtriangular and weakly elevated in Cephennomicrus). Six species are known, two found in Kenya and four in DC Congo. Diagnostic characters were illustrated and all species treated by Jałoszyński (2011a, 2016).

One of species described by Scott (1922) as Neseuthia, and later listed as Cephennomicrus (Jałoszyński 2008), turned out to belong in Pomphopsilla .
