Type species: Brasilaxia morretesi Théry, 1935: 294 (orig. designation; synonym of B. costifera (Obenberger, 1913)) .

The genus was originally monotypic and two additional species were described by Obenberger (1958). Both of these were later synonymized by Cobos (1971): B. olavei Obenberger, 1958 with Cylindrophora iricolor (Olave,1953) and B. jacobi Obenberger, 1958 with C. mariae Cobos, 1956 . Subsequently, C. iricolor was synonymized by Cobos (1975) with C. oyarcei (Germain & Kerremans, 1906) .
