Key characters of the species of this genus are: seta z6 of some species inserted much closer to and anteromesad of s6, rather than inserted midway between s6 and j6 and at the same level as or posteromesad of s6; seta R1 always inserted on membrane; in addition to the setae present in all members of the tribe, JV2 also present, whereas setae J1, Z1 and JV3 present or absent (dorsal opisthosomal and ventral setal patterns O-8A/JV:ZV, O-9B/JV:ZV, O-10B/JV:ZV or O-9B/JV-3:ZV); seta ST3 on or off sternal shield; 2 pairs of metapodal shields; ventrianal shield subtriangular, subquadrate or pentagonal, with 3 (JV1, JV2 and JV3, or JV1, JV2 and ZV2) or 4 (JV1, JV2, JV3 and ZV2) pairs of preanal setae and 1 pair of preanal pores; seta ZV2 on ventrianal shield or on membrane; peritreme extending anteriorly at least to level of j3; fixed cheliceral digit with at least 6 teeth (unknown in A. laterisetus), movable cheliceral digit with 2 – 3 teeth (unknown in A. laterisetus); legs I – III without macrosetae; leg IV with or without macrosetae; calyx of spermatheca shallow bowl-shaped, cupshaped or funnel-shaped.
