Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Caribbean Sea, and Brazil (Pará, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina) (Coelho & Ramos 1972; Powers 1977; Abele & Kim 1986; Ceolho et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009; Marochi & Massunari 2011).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo do not include the specific locality or analyzed material; this occurrence is based on a bibliographic survey (Dall’Occo et al. 2004).
