Distribution. Western Atlantic—Bermuda, USA (North Carolina, Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, and Brazil (Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, São Paulo) (Hay & Shore 1918; Rathbun 1918; Williams 1965, 1984; Abele & Kim 1986; Barreto et al. 1993; Melo 1996, 1998; Almeida et al. 2007b; Felder et al. 2009; Castro & Ng 2010).
Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo state include Santos (1 female collected in 1961) (Castro & Ng 2010). It is a small crab (4–28mm) (Castro & Ng 2010) that occurs in varied depth from shallow subtidal to 90m (Powers 1977), being rare in samplings.
