Scarabaeus boreus Olivier, 1789: 106 (original description). Type locality: Cayenne [French Guyana], au Brésil [= Brazil]).

Type series. unknown. According to Cupello (2018: 476) most of the Olivier collection is deposited at MNHN.

Remarks. According to Sarmiento-Garcés & Amat-García (2014) this species has a length of 22–27 mm. It is distributed in Brazil: Amazonas State, 80 km N of Manaus (Quintero & Roslin 2005: appendix A); Colombia: Meta and Vichada departments (Sarmiento-Garcés & Amat-García 2014: 42); Guyana: Kanuku Mountain Region (Forsyth & Gill 1993: 70); French Guyana: Nouragues Biological Field Station, 100 km S of Cayenne (Feer & Pincebourde 2005: 29); Suriname: Upper Palumeu River Watershed, Grensgebergte and Kasikasima (Larsen 2013: 96); and Venezuela: Miranda State, Altos de Pipe (Ferrer-Paris et al. 2013: 109).
