Cosmotoma Chevrolat, 1843: 269; Gilmour, 1955: 1 (syn.).

Type locality — French Guiana (Cayenne) (probably deposited at BMNH) .

Distribution — French Guiana.

Remarks. The combined description of the new genus with a single new species allows considering the species as described in Chevrolat (1843). However, the original description does not allow recognizing the species. Accordingly, it is not possible to know if it is a senior synonymy of another described species. Thus, the number of described species in Cosmotoma is 12, and not 11 as currently listed. Gilmour (1955) wrongly attributed the genus to Blanchard (1845).
