Herrera lugubrina lugubrina (Stål, 1864) new record
Carineta lugubrina Stål 1864: 57 . (Mexico)
Herrera nr. lugubrina Wolda & Ramos 1992: 272, 276, Figs. 17.5–17.6, Table 17.1. (Panama)
Remarks. The species identified as “nr. lugubrina ” by Wolda & Ramos (1992) is considered to be this subspecies. No other species of Herrera has the piceous body of this subspecies and they distinguished it from what they considered to be several new taxa in the genus distinct from H. lugubrina lugubrina . I therefore consider this to be H. lugubrina lugubrina as the other subspecies is currently only known from Mexico (Sanborn 2007a).
The piceous body of this subspecies easily distinguishes it from H. ancilla .
Distribution. The species has been recorded previously from Mexico (Metcalf 1963b; Sanborn 2013). Specimens of “nr. lugubrina ” were collected at Miramar, Province of Bocas del Toro at sea level, at Boquete, Province of Chiriquí, at 1350 m altitude in remnant forest habitat, Las Cumbres, Province of Panama, 150 m altitude in secondary growth forest, and Barro Colorado Island, Panama Canal Zone, 120 m altitude in lowland forest (Wolda & Ramos 1992) in Panama.
