Giesbert & Hovore (1998) state that Cyphonotida rostrata occurs from Texas and Arizona through Mexico and Central America to Colombia, and is highly variable in color; the pronotum, legs and elytra grading between black and red–orange. The nominate form has a wide distribution in South America .
Geographical distribution. The species was described from Colombia, and occurs northward through most of Central America and Mexico. We add new country records for Guiana, Ecuador, Brazil and Bolivia.
Specimens examined. GUIANA, male (Lansberg leg.) [no further data]. ECUADOR, Loja: Vilcabamba, male, V.1986 (G. Onore leg.). BRAZIL, Rondônia: Vilhena, 2 males, X.1986 (O. Roppa, P. Magno & J. Becker leg.). BOLIVIA, Chuquisaca: Incahuasi (E. Muyupampa, 1600 m), 7 males, XII.1984 (L. Peña leg.). All specimens deposited in the MNRJ collection.
