Euryptera brasiliensis Fuchs, 1956: 568 . New synonymy.

Gounelle (1911), in the description of E. virgata, mentioned a series of 12 specimens, with no holotype selected. Therefore, the following lectotype designation is necessary to fix clearly the status of the taxon.

Euryptera brasiliensis was described from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Upon examination of a photograph kindly sent by Herbert Schmid, we have determined that this species is only a color variation of E. latipennis . The color pattern of the elytra varies considerably from black with a minute postmedian orange macula to completely orange with a narrow black apical band.

Geographical distribution. Brazil (Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Goiás, and Espírito Santo to Rio Grande do Sul), Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina.
